Company Profile

Plasma Processes, Inc. (PPI) is an ISO 9001:2000-certified small business specializing in the development and manufacture of high and ultra-high temperature materials, coatings, net-shape structures and powder alloying & spheroidizationSM services. PPI develops, applies and validates coating solutions for thermal protection, electrical isolation, wear & corrosion resistance, and dimensional restoration, in addition to manufacturing near and near-net-shape components utilizing a variety of unique and prorietary processes. PPI serves customers in the government, aerospace, defense, nuclear, medical and industrial sectors.

Vacuum plasma spray chamber
PPI's vacuum plasma spray chamber is used for applying coatings, spray forming components, and high heat flux testing in controlled atmospheres.

Key Personnel


Timothy McKechnie
Mr. McKechnie serves as president of Plasma Processes and holds a M.S. in Material Science & Engineering and B.E. in Mechanical & Materials Engineering from Vanderbilt University. Tim has over 20 years experience in materials R&D, rocket engine fabrication, thermal spray, and other coating processes. He has direct experience with Vacuum Plasma Spraying (VPS) of aluminum alloys, beryllium, copper alloys, tungsten, superalloys, rhenium, ceramics, and molybdenum composites. In his nine years as Lead Engineer for the Rocketdyne Division of Pratt & Whitney, he developed, tested, and manufactured VPS coatings for Space Shuttle Main Engine flight and test hardware. He is experienced with corrosion and wear control coatings, as well as spray forming components with metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. Tim has written or co-authored more than forty technical publications.

Scott O'Dell
Mr. O'Dell is Project Engineering Manager for Plasma Processes Inc. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mr. O'Dell has twelve years experience in the field of materials engineering including, laser processing, powder metallurgy, directional solidification, microgravity research, experimental design, ferrous metals industry and thermal spray background. Scott has developed innovative materials for use in high temperature and high heat flux applications. He has made numerous technical presentations and has been author or co-author of over a dozen technical publications.

Dr. Anatoliy Shchetkovskiy
Dr. Shchetkovskiy serves as EL-form™ director for Plasma Processes Inc.  He has an Electrochemical Production engineering degree from Polytechnic Institute, Novocherkassk, Russia and Ph.D. in Electrochemistry from the Institute of High Temperature Electrochemsitry, Sverdlovsk, Russia

Dr. Shchetkovskiy has over thirty years experience in electrochemistry and material science and engineering.  He has conducted R&D in many areas of the electroforming process including process design, parameter development and refinement, materials testing, and process development.  Dr. Shchetkovskiy is recognized for development and commercialization of high temperature El-Form™ processes to produce coating and near net shape parts from iridium, rhenium, tungsten and niobium. Dr. Shchetkovskiy has over 60 publications including articles, technical reports, invention certificates and presentations.

Christopher Power
Senior Coatings Engineer, coordinates all testing and manufacturing. He has designed and implemented tool designs and developed numerous spray parameters. Chris is an expert in plasma spray gun operation and use. He has been awarded many NASA Technology Utilization Awards concerning plasma technology. Chris was Rocketdyne's Chief Technician in thermal spray for seven years.
