Thermal Protection

Thermal Protection is essential in modern industrial applications where various parts and components are used in extreme environments. Since components readily wear, oxidize, and degrade, thermal spray coating can dramatically increase the material properties of the part. Thermal sprayed ceramic coatings can be applied to these components to provide enhanced thermal, electrical, and wear protection.

Ceramic coatings lower the penetration of heat into a component and provide increased high temperature oxidation resistance. Zirconia thermal barrier coatings with thermal conductivity that is 10% of most metals are used extensively in industrial gas turbines and jet engines. In addition, protecting restored or new components from extreme temperatures with a ceramic coating is especially desirable as it provides added life to components at a fraction of the replacement cost.

Electrical Isolation

Thermal spray coatings can be used to provide enhanced dielectric properties. Ceramic coatings resist electrical current flow.

Plasma Processes also applies polymer coatings such as Teflon™, plastic, polyimide, acrylics, nylons, etc. to provide electrical insulation. Thermal spray electrical insulation coatings continue to increase in use and are being applied to more components in the aerospace, automotive, and power generation and the electronics industries.
